[SG] 8 Cafes to go for Weekend Brunch

Friday, April 18, 2014

With so many cafes and new places now, it's almost getting hard to decide where to go every weekend. Yet, our experiences with many new cafes have been a overrated one, with ambience overshadowing food for most.

We're still drawn to the classics, all these that we've tried so far that managed to leave an impression - enough for us to want to go back for more! Here are our top 8 picks, though we're still on the lookout for good cafes with good food, so do share with us your favourites too!

We were charmed by the experience on our visit, with a perfect cup of coffee that won us over (possibly the best cup of flat white so far), it's a place with decent food and a comfortable ambience for you to pander over magazines and a relaxing brunch.

Go there for their coffee and Toby's Breakfast.

Overcrowded on weekends but equipped with an efficient queue system, expect a bit of waiting time. Their dishes come at a premium compared to other cafes, though their menu have got interesting items that we can't wait to go back and try.

Go there for their Eggs Benedict and we've heard that their Flan and Bacon&Cheese Rissoles are good.

Address: 9 Jalan Kubor #01-01 Singapore 199206 (Arab Street/Bugis)

By the folks behind Uppercrust, we loved how spacious the place was, unlike typical cafes where tables are so close together you can hear all kinds of gossip going on. Generous portions for that satisfying kick after eating, we enjoyed the refreshing combination with buttered corn, though they could do with more desserts on their menu!

Go there for 62-degrees Eggs Benedict with Ham and variety of organic artisanal bread.

A small restaurant at the side with an inconspicuous signboard beyond eye level, it's easy to miss this place. Cosy space with a vintage touch, this is one of the classic places to get a good eggs ben.

Go there for their Eggs Royale.

5. Oriole Cafe & Bar

Our favourite place in town to rest our legs and enjoy a cup of coffee, or for that brunch with the girls, this is one of those rare conveniently located cafes where you don't have to drive/walk through small hidden roads to get to. We love their coffee and a surprise Sunday brunch item, though a personal favourite is still their Prosciutto Scrambled Eggs with a strong truffle taste in every bite - which they've removed from their menu.

Go there for their coffee, honey crumble affogato and classic french toast.

Gene (the owner) is selfish to not sell you what he doesn't eat, hence the name of the place. They serve pretty good food for its brunch menu and the spread is pretty sumptuous.

Go there for warm Banana Cake with Peanut Butter, The Valerie and Matcha Latte

Where else can you find a cafe with such view of greenery and horse stables? Bound to be crowded, do make reservations prior to your visit. We loved the ambience and sumptuous mains with friendly service staff.

Go there for their Eggs Benedict with Pacific Swimmer Crab, Death by Chocolate Cake

This place is so ulu, yet so crowded. Easties would probably be familiar, we loved their runny eggs done well each time. Their dinner menu seemed pretty well-received too, though I doubt we'll be travelling that far any time soon.

Go there for Eggs Benedict, Chocolate Milkshake

Address: 965A Upper Changi Road North Singapore 507665

Our list isn't exhaustive for sure and we would love to hear your recommended spots as well for us to plan our next weekend trip. Happy hopping! :)

  1. Great review, thanks for sharing. Makes me want to visit the place too. There is this map called CafeSG that lets you find all the local cafes in Singapore! Super useful for cafe hopping and to discover new cafes near home and workplace.
